Join hands to enlighten all women in your path

With over 130 female students and faculty members, BGC Trust University Bangladesh organized Breast Cancer Awareness on 03 December 2019. The event took place with the introduction speech of Registrar Mr. A F M Aktaruzzaman Kaisar the honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Saroj Kanti Singh Hazari.

Dr. Shafatujjahan, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Medical Oncology and Radiotherapy, Chattagram Maa O Shishu Medical College Hospital intrigued everyone with the prevalence, mortality and few pictures from her real clinical experience. Having seen this, everyone became eager to learn about the signs, symptoms, risk factors and process of Breast Self-Examination. They were also determined to spread this awareness among their near and dear ones.
Ms. Savina Ekram Shirajee (Anny); Shera Radhuni 1422 and Former Director of Chittagong Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry shared experience from her family members and why it’s important to be aware early and act early. The session ended with a long question-answer and feedback session, where many women applauded this initiative; they became aware of many new information, which they had no idea about.

Breast Cancer Awareness program her4her was arranged in East West University with collaboration of Rotaract Club Of East West University (RACEWU) and East West University Environmental & Social Club I EWUESC under guidance of East West University Career Counseling Center on 05 November 2019. A batch of 27 volunteers divided into 2 groups to conduct 2 sessions to educate their friends, seniors, juniors along with few faculty members and guardians.

Before that, on 3rd November they received hands on training from Dr. Sadia Sharmin, Associate Professor of BSMMU. They learnt all the signs and symptoms along with many risk factors and statistics about breast cancer.

After the program on the 5thNovember, her4her had a good feedback from the audiences. They expressed how they believed some of the myths and after attending the program, it opened their eyes to the truth. They pledged to take care of themselves and to spread the awareness into their homes and community.

Southeast Pharmacy Club welcomed Roche Bangladesh with its campaign her4her to spread Breast Cancer Awareness among female students, faculties, and staffs of Southeast University. With over 150 participants, the actual training session started after the speech from honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. ANM Mashquat Uddin. Among others, Mr. M. Kamaluddin Chowdhury (representative member of BoT), Registrar, Chairman, Department of Pharmacy, Southeast University, Club Moderator, were also present in the seminar.

They applauded this initiative of learning Breast Self Examination training with phenomenal enthusiasm. After the inauguration of the program, the gentlemen left the stage to the trainer, Dr. Lubna Mariam, Cancer Specialist and Assistant Professor of National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital and 2 female doctors from Roche.

Officials from both, Roche and University highlighted the importance of sharing this knowledge to everyone else who could not participate this session. As the number of people being aware are increasing, everyone hoped that the whole nation will be aware someday, that will lead to early start of the treatment followed by increased overall survival rate.

With an aim to “join hands to enlighten all women in your path”, Roche Bangladesh organized Breast Cancer Awareness session under the project name her4her under supervision of two doctors. The day-long event was organized in collaboration with Pharmacy Department, Independent University, Bangladesh on 21 October during IUB Pharma Fest 2019.

Prior to this, "Train the Trainer" session for 16 female students along with a faculty member, was conducted on 18 October 2019 by an Oncologist (Dr. Samina Islam, Jr. Consultant, Enam Medical College and Hospital) where volunteers were given hands-on training on Breast Self-Examination and its importance.

With the growing awareness its only about time that women themselves will be able to detect abnormality of the breast at a very early stage which will lead to early consultation with a doctor eventually increased overall survival and better quality of life.
